Crown Jewel of the Oceans

The Grand Duchy of Minmoon is an island that sits in the Twin Straits, separating the Dominion to the west, and the Kingdom to the east. This small nation is also an important trading partner to the fledgling Alvan Republic, to which it has access via the northern seas. Indeed, there are a great many ships from all three regional powers at Minmoosa, the largest harbour and the de facto capital.

Despite the Duchy laying no claim to any totem, it has been allowed to thrive as an independent state ever since the ratification of the Silent Pact over a century ago. This treaty designated Minmoon as a neutral city state, acting as a buffer between the belligerent parties, which in turn officially ended the claims of the Kingdom over the western continent.

Despite being a young nation, the Duchy quickly became an international powerhouse, as major guilds from all cultures rushed to establish their headquarters on the island. Because if its unique status as a “neutral treasury”, the economy of Minmoon became exceptionally strong for a state of its size.  As wealth and goods from all the colonies flooded the island’s vaults, the continued importance of this nation was cemented in history.

Thanks to the convergence of trade, Minmoon’s unique culture has had plenty of time to invest into the arts, distinguishing itself quickly from its neighbours. A large contingent of the world’s greatest painters, musicians, and architects all hail from the Grand Duchy, and as you might expect, this has helped shape the entire island into a spectacular sight to behold. Artisans aside, merchants, treasurers, accountants, and all other fields pertaining to the management of currencies and valuable assets are deemed critical to the Grand Duchy’s success. In turn, Kimet who work these jobs are greatly respected.

The culture that grew out of Minmoon is heavily influenced by both The Song Dominion and The Kingdom of Four Rivers. Their manner of dress reflects the sensibilities of both these cultures, employing the trim, well fitting tailorship of the Dominion, with all the flash and flamboyance of the Kingdom. In particular, garments accentuating the length of the neck, by hugging it all the way up from clavicle to the jawline are deemed very fashionable. Often these garments are fastened by lace or leather stings which criss-cross up or down the neck and are neatly tied at one end or the other. In regards to plumage, the island of the Grand Duchy has become a very desirable place to live for all cultures… and many travelers who find themselves at her docks opt never to leave (assuming they’re able to find the work they need to remain permanently). As such, it’s a melting pot that is reflected by the great variety of plumage types that can be found there.
